CI Earth™ for Food - asset tracking and mapping
CI Earth is used to map crop distributions and field data in an online environment accessible by all registered users. Data is captured using CI Mobile and GPS reader technology. The CI Mobile interface is configured to capture only data specific to a crop, grower or grower activity. Users range from growers, through farm managers and agronomists, to auditors, buyers and senior management.
In the case of remote growers in particular, CI Earth is designed to include and empower users at all levels of literacy and technology awareness, overcoming language or technical literacy through a combination of language and icon driven interface options that facilitate ease of use in even the most difficult conditions.
CI Earth’s standard hardware platform comprises the following components:
CI Earth data can be synchronized with CI World through any locally available means of internet connection. This can range from satellite through to dial-up modem. As data arrives it is processed automatically by the CI World rules engine. Data is analysed to ensure that rules have been complied with. It is also made available for direct export from CI World to GIS software.
GPS referenced data is made available within CI World in various formats, including chart form and in the following GIS applications:
- Google™ Earth
- Microsoft® Virtual Earth™
- ESRI ArcView
Once the field area has been inventoried and mapped, the data can be used to create a resource management plan for the given location. These maps can be shared online by all the authorized users involved in the crop management process.
CI Earth substantially reduces the costs involved in field mapping:
- shortening the cycle time for gathering inventory data from weeks to days;
- by enabling local personnel to undertake the same tasks, CI Earth lessens the reliance on technical staff to conduct surveys; and
- replacing paper based approaches significantly cuts the number of resources required to process field consensus data.
CI Earth substantially increases management control over mapping, harvesting and crop control:
- Inventory reports are delivered to management detailing grower activities at remote locations.
- Non-compliances with respect to standards such as certification, boundary management or quality control are immediately identified and notification sent to management.
- CI Earth data sets can be used to create a fully auditable trail for crops and associated processed products as they are harvested and move along the supply chain from site to site.
- CI Earth can expedite the path to certification.
