CI Earth for Food

The food mapping module of CI World is called CI Earth.

CI Earth is used to map crop distributions and field data in an online environment accessible by all registered users. Data is captured using GPS technology. Users range from growers, through farm managers and agronomists, to auditors, buyers and senior management.

In the case of remote growers in particular, CI Earth is designed to include and empower users at all levels of literacy and technology awareness, overcoming language or technical literacy issues through a combination of language and icon driven interface options that facilitate ease of use in even the most difficult conditions.

For crops such as cocoa, for instance, the location of community farms can be mapped using CI Earth and the CI World database can be used to build up a picture of farming practices, including pesticide and fertilizer use, which have a direct effect on yield levels.
